Please join The Nonprofit Partnership and Dr. Adrienne Riegle, President of The Script Project, for [Zoom Meeting] Increasing Capacity for Empathy: How Using Your Imagination Reduces Bias and Improves Your Efforts, on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM.

Empathy is an abstract concept yet has appeared with increasing frequency in the media over the last year. We will briefly explore the topic, its relationship to decreased bias, and what we can actively do to encourage it in our workspaces and personal lives. Dr. Riegle will teach us how to use our "sociological imaginations" to critique meritocratic thinking and demonstrate that moving beyond our cultural emphasis on "individualism" is important for understanding how we're all connected to each other.

Participants will:

Gain a deeper understanding of the critical need to "put yourself in someone else's shoes"
Practice using a perspective demonstrated to reduce bias and move from individual-based merit thinking to structural and community-based approaches
Understand how to increase empathy capacity in their own nonprofits to build authentic relationships

The Nonprofit Partnership's offices at The Susan Hirt Hagen Center for Transformational Philanthropy are open Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM.
