Director of Development

POSITION: Director of Development EFFECTIVE DATE: 2022
REPORTS TO: Executive Director STATUS: Full-Time/Exempt

SUMMARY: The Erie DAWN (Dwelling and Advocacy for Women in Need) Mission Statement is “Rooted in the belief that all people have the right to live in a setting that safeguards human dignity, Erie DAWN in partnership with area landlords provides safe, affordable, independent, transitional and permanent housing resources for low-income women with or without children. Advocacy and support services are provided so these women can continue to productive members of the community.”

The Director of Development is responsible for developing comprehensive fundraising and marketing plans and objectives, in conjunction with the team, initiating and overseeing targeted fundraising goals, quantitative outcomes, and timelines. Duties include overseeing and managing fundraising efforts, building strong and successful community and donor relationships, maintaining communications with donors, grant writing, executive assistant duties, and collaborating with the Erie DAWN team to effectively execute fundraising events.

MUST Possess:

1. Minimum of a BS degree in marketing, communications, or related field, or the equivalent experience required.
2. Experience in successful fundraising, on-going awareness events and activities to increase agency status within the community.
3. Experience in grant seeking, writing, and reporting.
4. Knowledgeable of current marketing trends, initiatives, and branding.
5. Experience in social media campaigns and website oversite.
6. Familiarity with donor data system, or the enthusiasm to learn and utilize a complex database.
7. Knowledge of office machinery, equipment and programs, including, but not limited to, personal computer, copier, fax machine, scanner, a multi-line phone system, and related computer software (PowerPoint, Excel, MS Word, MS Publisher, Outlook, etc.).
8. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively interface with all levels of management, employees, partnering organizations, and the community at large.
9. Act 33, 34, and FBI fingerprint clearances.
10. Strong commitment to the organization, its goals and mission statement and willingness to be a positive Erie DAWN ambassador; strong community presence and involvement.
11. Able to maintain all agency confidential information including, but not limited to, agency budget, meetings, employee salaries, and Board of Directors information and content.
12. Ability and willingness to work a flexible full-time schedule (+40 hours per week) to meet the needs of the organization.
13. Collaborate and work as a team player.

Must Be Able To:
1. Understand and consistently follow agency and departmental policies and procedures.
2. Develop and oversee on-going fundraising programs and schedules.
3. Identify prospective corporate and individual donors.
4. Develop strategies and implement planning to cultivate a strong donor base.
5. Provide communication services on behalf of the agency, including web site design, marketing, branding, research and planned events.
6. Research and write grants on local, state, and federal level institutions.
7. Ensure timely and accurate reporting to all funding sources.
8. Collaboration with the team on the planning and management of fundraising events.
9. Develop print or online marketing collateral related to fundraising and awareness initiatives including newsletters, annual reports, social media outlets, grants, and fundraising efforts.
10. Prepare project proposals and budgets.
11. Assist the Executive Director in identifying outreach events, speaking engagements, and presentation opportunities throughout Erie County to increase agency recognition and presence.
12. Works as the Executive Assistant to the Executive Director, overseeing complex scheduling, deadlines, and demands.
13. Ability and willingness to embrace on-going continuing education.
14. Graphic design skills preferred.
15. Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Salary range: $35,000-$38,000, based on experience and/or qualifications
